| Chamonix:
mountaineering and challenge
The
Chamonix Valley is a majestic, glacial valley for sports lovers,
families and thrill seekers with superb panoramic views over Mt
Blanc.
A region steeped in history dating back 3000BC and boasting the
longest, glacial descent in Europe with superb skiing for beginners
to professionals. Chamonix hosted the first winter Olympic Games
in 1924 and will again host the 2018 Games. The first ever pair
of skis were fashioned here in 1893. Travel to where it all began.
The
large township pulses with activity. Great shopping for all and
teeming with restaurants, cafes, providores and night spots, Chaminox
is the central hub of the hamlets set amongst
the deep forests, frozen lakes and rolling Alpine meadows which
are wrapped and blanketed with white during the winter. There is
something for every taste, every age and every budget.
Night-time downhill skiing at Le Tourchet and evening cross-country
skiing in Le Buet are very popular. Experience the World Cup Verte
slope, the outdoor skating rink, full moon soirees, spas for adults
and kids. Try your hand at skijoring (skiing behind a horse) or
dog sledding! Alpine and crystal museums, art studios and jazz festivals
are cultural bonuses.
A holiday with something for everyone.
